Start a Database Instance Manually

If a database instance has been stopped, and you want to restart it, you may need to set it to run manually. There are several ways to do this, but the techniques you can use will vary depending on whether the database instance is registered as a Windows service.

If you want to start a database instance that has been registered as Windows service, you can use the: Server Icon, Command Line, Geo SCADA Expert Service Manager, or Windows Services. Alternatively, you could restart Windows - as the database instance is registered as a Windows service, it will start automatically when Windows restarts (unless you change the start-up options in the Windows Services settings).

If the database instance has not been registered as a Windows service, you can start it by using the Command Line or Server Icon.

• Using a Command Line:
  1. Run the Windows Command Prompt (cmd.exe)
  2. Use the cd command to change the current working directory to the directory where Geo SCADA Expert is installed. For example:

     cd "C:\Program Files\Schneider Electric\ClearSCADA"

  3. Enter:

     DBServer.exe /root <database instance name>

     Where <database instance name> is the Name defined for the database instance when it was first created (see Add a Database Instance). Do not include the angle brackets < >.

  4. Press Enter. The database instance starts. Depending on the settings in place for the database instance, you may need to start the Server Icon for the database instance manually (see Run the Server Icon for a Database Instance).

  Alternatively, if the database instance has been registered as a Windows service, you can enter the following command to start the service:

  net start DBSERVER-<database instance name>

  then press Enter.

• Using the Server Icon
  1. Run the Server Icon for a Database Instance (if it is not already running).
  2. Right-click on the Server Icon to display a context-sensitive menu.
  3. Select Start Server.
     

• Using the Geo SCADA Expert Service Manager
  1. Run the Geo SCADA Expert Service Manager
  2. Select the Start button for the service you require on the Service Manager window. The name of the service will be 'Geo SCADA Expert Database Server (<database instance name>)'. <database instance name> is the Name defined for the database instance when it was first created (see Add a Database Instance).

  NOTE:The Geo SCADA Expert Service Manager also allows you to Stop (but not restart) a database instance.

• Using Windows Services:
  1. Run Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services
  2. Right-click on the database instance you want to start. The name of the service will be 'Geo SCADA Expert Server (<database instance name>)'. <database instance name> is the Name defined for the database instance when it was first created (see Add a Database Instance).
  3. From the context-sensitive menu, choose Start.

  You can also use the Services tool to Stop or Restart the database instance.
